Taft’s Humanitas Interdisciplinary Pierce Program (HIPP) teaches students to see the connections between what they are learning and the world around them. In the real world, English, History, Science, and the Arts are all intertwined. The classes students take prepare students for their college and career goals.
Pierce College has also partnered with Humanitas to offer college classes at Taft. Our students will be taking Pierce classes with Pierce teachers on Taft’s campus during Periods 1 & 2. Most of the required Pierce courses taken are part of the Intersegmental General Education Transfer Curriculum (IGETC), which is a series of courses that California community college students can complete to satisfy freshman/sophomore level general education requirements before transferring to most colleges and majors at UC campuses. By the time students graduate, they will have almost enough units to have Junior status in college.
This 4-year program is for all students who wish to get a taste of college, to gain lifelong knowledge as well as the skills to succeed in the technological world we live in today.
