Taft Dance Team: This Team has a legacy of excellence, our students are committed and dedicated to growing, improving, and succeeding in and out of the dance room.  The Dance team is a Spirit team, the team brings pride to the students, staff, and community of Taft. The dance team is a year-long commitment, during the Fall the team focuses on Football games, pep rallies, school spirit, and dance concerts. The Spring semester focus is competitions, dance concerts, and the dance team audition.  Our goal on the dance team is to teach Life through dance, for students to develop body awareness and musicality with its relation to time, space, and energy. Students will choreograph their own Dances. Dancing alone or with others, the body will be used as an instrument to communicate emotions and to express individuality through movement. We are committed to academic and dance excellence.

Dance Classes -Students can simply enroll in Dance to earn their Physical Education credit. 
 
Beginning dance: 
This class will introduce the basic styles, techniques, vocabulary, and history of dance: Hip Hop, Jazz, Modern, and Contemporary dance.  Students will develop body awareness, spatial awareness, and musicality with its relation to time, space, and energy.  Students will choreograph their own dances.  When dancing alone or with others, the body is used as an instrument to communicate emotions and express unique individuality through movement.  
 

Intermediate Dance:  (for 10th Graders who have already taken Beginning Dance)
This class will build on the basic styles, techniques, vocabulary, and history of dance: Hip Hop, Jazz, Modern, and Contemporary dance.  Students will develop body awareness, spatial awareness, and musicality with its relation to time, space, and energy.  Students will choreograph their own dances.  When dancing alone or with others, the body is used as an instrument to communicate emotions and express unique individuality through movement.
 
 
The Dance Program
Our program's Objective is to teach students various styles of dance such as Jazz, modern, hip-hop, ballet, lyrical, and many more. We use dance to teach our students how to express their ideas, feelings, or concerns, we want to teach life through dance. Some of our goals are that students gain an appreciation for dance as an art form, Develop physical and energetic coordination, Develop musical and rhythmic awareness, Feel and experience movement, Create choreography, And Experiment with personal boundaries.
